About Your RentHousing Officer speaking to tenant

Rent is the Association's main source of income and pays for all of the important services we provide to our tenants.

We set rents in accordance with our Rent Setting Policy.  This policy is currently under review as we are looking at the way we charge rent to our tenants. We are aiming to replace the current rent setting structure with one that is fairer and easier to understand.  The rent levels will reflect the size and other features of the property.

The Association reviews its rents annually and consults its tenants about any proposed rent increase.  This process looks at projected costs for the next financial year.  We aim to ensure rent levels are affordable to those on low incomes whilst seeking to generate sufficient income to meet our future expenditure.  The Association must set rent increases to ensure the viability of the business.  Tenants are given at least 28 days notice of a rent increase.

In addition to a rent charge, some tenants also pay a charge for additional services such as garden maintenance; stair cleaning and bulk refuse uplift.

Rent is due 4 weekly in advance.  It is a condition of the tenancy agreement that rent is paid in full and on time.  The payment dates are detailed on our Rent Payment Calendar 2012/13.
